Honours in the Department of Accounting is taught by internationally renowned staff who provide a stimulating environment for students wishing to pursue cutting-edge research.
The content and delivery of the Honours program in Accounting is designed to equip you with frameworks for systematic enquiry, technical and research skills, and the ability to communicate messages and present ideas well.
High profile firms - including major corporations, consulting and accounting firms - regularly seek to employ our Honours graduates. In addition to the opportunities available in these sectors, recent graduates have gone on to pursue further academic studies including PhD and Master of Business Administration degrees either at the University of Melbourne or other leading business schools in Australia and overseas.
Students are required to complete the equivalent of eight subjects (100 points) in fourth year Honours. Students must take the following subjects:ACCT40004 Honours Research Methods
plus two or more of the following subjects:ACCT40001 Studies in Corporate Reporting
The remaining subjects must be approved by the Head of Department of Accounting to meet the overall load of 100 points.

Department Honours scholarship
The Department of Accounting also awards scholarships to high-achieving students who have been accepted into the Honours program. To be eligible, students must be commencing the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in the Department of Accounting and undertaking the subject ACCT40005 Honours Research Essay.
Each scholarship is worth $5,000 if matched with an Honours Scholarship from the Faculty, and valued at $10,000 if awarded to a student without any other matching source/s of funding. Students are considered on the basis of academic merit.
Subject prizes are automatically awarded to the highest-achieving student for a particular subject or group of subjects.
